Wait. Are passwords like skinny jeans now?

You may have heard that passkeys are here to save us all from the rapidly aging status quo of passwords. But what really is a passkey, and how does it work? Is now the right time to introduce passkeys into your web applications? Are your users even ready? What does an implementation look like? What technical challenges should you anticipate? What UX considerations do you need to be mindful of? Is the trend to move away from passwords actually urgent or is it like my just-fine pair of skinny jeans?

In this playful but packed session, we'll dive into the world of passwordless authentication and learn the basics of how to start building web applications with faster, easier, and more secure sign-in experiences with passkeys. We'll cover some terms you might have heard before, like WebAuthn, the FIDO2 Framework, biometric authentication, and more.

Join this talk (led by an also rapidly-aging-skinny-jean-loving-definitely-non-fashion-forward software engineer) to learn how to leverage the power of these new technologies to help your users joyfully and confidently navigate this exciting new world and help make the password a thing of the past (you can keep your skinny jeans, though).
