Building High-Performing Software Engineering Teams
Ben is a Principal Engineer at Thrivent working on Developer Platforms and tooling to unlock the value of Digital technology for Thrivent's current and future customers. Ben, and a team at Thrivent, held the first three successful internal Engineering Conferences where engineers from all across Thrivent gathered to learn, share, and collaborate with each other in unlocking the competitive advantage that DevOps brings. In his tenure at Thrivent, Ben has managed three different Engineering Teams, and has been invited on multiple occasions to mentor other Engineering Managers.
Outside of work, Ben is a coach of the New Life Academy Iron Eagles Robotics Team, FTC 17240. In his role as a coach, Ben teaches students about many different aspects of STEM.

Ben Spain is a 25 year veteran of the software industry. Having worked at Microsoft, Target, and now currently at Thrivent, Ben has always been passionate about building software that improves the lives of people. Ben has held a variety of titles: from Software Tester, to Engineering Manager, to VP of Technology. Learning new skills has always been a key factor in advancing his career, and now, as an engineering leader, it is his honor to mentor and coach others on their own career advancement.
